5 Top Tips For Dealing With Stress

Did you know that April is Stress Awareness month? We have teamed up with Action Mental Health to bring you 5 top tips for dealing with stress.

5 Top Tips For Dealing With Stress

Every time we turn on the news or log on to social media it seems like there’s more things to worry about. Price hikes, political uncertainty, the weather, what promotion Peter from your year at school has got now… Whatever triggers are adding to your load, these simple tips can have a massive positive impact on your well-being.

Build Connections

Connect with the people around you – whether it’s grabbing a quick cuppa, making time for dinner plans or scheduling a phone call with an old friend. Invest in the relationships you have and make new ones – look at those relationships as if they’re cornerstones of your life and take the time to strengthen them.

Be Active

Feeling lethargic? Go for a walk, run, cycle, play a game, garden or book a dance lesson. Exercise releases serotonin, relaxes your muscles and can get you out of your own headspace. Don’t like the sound of any of those? Discover something active that you enjoy and can work into your schedule.

There are loads of free apps like Headspace or Calm to help you get into meditation. If you don’t fancy that, just try this. Stop, pause, or take a moment to look around you. What can you see, feel, smell, or taste? Look for beautiful, new, unusual or extraordinary things in your everyday life and pay attention to how they make you feel.

Learn Something

Don’t be afraid to try something new, rediscover an old hobby or sign up for a course. Like taking photos? Try a photography course. Were you into art as a kid? Why not pick up your paintbrushes again. Learning new things can make you feel more confident as well as being fun.

Doing good helps us as well as the people around us. Did you know that acts of kindness not only inspires other people to be kind, but it improves your levels of hopefulness and optimism? Do something nice for a friend or stranger, thank someone, smile, volunteer your time or think about joining a community group.

Gary McClarty, Managing Director at MCLInsureTech Ltd commented, “We are thrilled to be supporting Action Mental Health in this year’s Belfast Marathon, which takes place on 5th May 2019. With less than four weeks to go, our staff have stepped up their training and I am incredibly proud of their dedication and motivation. This is just one of many initiatives we undertake each year to raise money for worthy causes.”
